There will be a special tribute to Billie Jean King at Cromer Lawn Tennis and Squash Club to mark her 80th birthday.
Tennis player King, who is considered the most influential sportswoman in history, led the fight for equal pay for sportswomen and won 39 major titles.
The club will host a talk about King at 11am on Wednesday, November 22, followed by a champagne reception and a re-enactment of a famous ‘battle of the sexes’ match originally played in 1973.
Club chairman, Kelvin van Hasselt, said: “Billie Jean’s influence was enabled by her amazing success on the court.
“In 1974, Billie Jean founded the Women’s Sport Foundation, dedicated to assisting and funding the development of sports for women and girls.
“With the power of the WTA behind her Billie Jean negotiated a year-by-year increase in prize money for women from 1976 until it was equal to that of men.”
Attendees will get a copy of King’s autobiography, All In. It costs £15 to attend, book by calling the club on 01263 513741.
