A Netflix production team is getting ready to film scenes for The Dig, a period drama which will star Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan, and starts filming in Cromer on Tuesday.
Filming will take place inside and outside the Hotel De Paris overlooking the pier and seafront.
Speculation was rife that Mr Fiennes and Miss Mulligan could travel to the north Norfolk town to film scenes.
But a member of the production team said that, unfortunately, they would not be venturing to the seaside town, although other cast members will.
The cast members who could be filming in Cromer have not been revealed, but the movie also stars Lily James, Ken Stott, and Ben Chaplin.
A road sign on the corner of New Street in Cromer says: "Filming event, Sutton Hoo Films, Jetty Cliff and Jetty Street, closed on November 12, between 7am and 7pm, contact 01753 656522."
Concerns had been raised that filming could hit trade at nearby businesses, but a spokesman for the Jetty Cafe said it would not affect them while Hugh Little, who works part-time at Dapper Chaps, in High Street, did not expect any problems.
However, he added: "We were hoping that it would be a bit busier today. I think, originally, they were going to film on Monday, as well."
The plot, based on a novel by John Preston, revolves around the Sutton Hoo burial ship, near Woodbridge in Suffolk, the greatest Anglo-Saxon discovery ever in Britain.
The film will focus on the partnership between landowner Edith Pretty, played by Miss Mulligan, with Mr Fiennes portraying archaeologist Basil Brown.
Netflix describes the production as: "An historic discovery, the echoes of Britain's past resonate in the face of its uncertain future."
The film crew began shooting scenes in September in Shingle Street, near Hollesley in Suffolk, and Netflix has confirmed there will be a worldwide release for The Dig in 2020.
