Plans for a new housing development in a coastal town have been approved despite being met with a wave of objections.

The plans, lodged by Holkam Estate, proposed building 47 new houses at land off Mill Road in Wells-next-the-Sea.

Despite being met with over 30 objections, the development was passed unanimously in a vote by North Norfolk District Council's development committee.

The committee made it clear that the area is in dire need of affordable housing.

Holkham Estate submitted the plans in late July to build 47 homes on the western edge of Wells.

It had undertaken a 15-month consultation and subsequently reduced the number of homes originally planned for the project down from 51 following feedback from the public.
