A couple have thanked the north Norfolk community for their support as they look to sell their business after 12 years.

Phil Weston opened Wet Dog in early 2012 after a redundancy led him to take his future into his own hands and follow his passion.

First opening in Cromer, the shop sold a range of clothing and accessories from well-known beach and surf brands before Phil set his sights on expansion four years later.

In 2016, the business became a family affair as Phil's wife, Kay, came on board, bringing with her many years of retail management experience.

The pair then opened their second branch in Sheringham in May of that year.

Wet Dog's popularity continued to grow when in May 2018 the brand's third shop opened in Wells-next-the-Sea.

A spokesman for the agent, Paul Hubbard Commercial, said: "The business started in difficult times on the back of end of the financial crisis.

"Then it survived the changes that Brexit brought about, unfortunately, the Covid pandemic aided in the decision to close the Sheringham branch in January 2021."

However, with the two branches, the business continued as before.

"Regrettably, the couple are now looking to pass on the business to someone else who has their passion for the industry, the area and of course for providing high levels of customer service," the spokesman added.

"You don't get voted one of the top seven independent retailers in Norfolk for nothing.

"They've made some amazing friends and really enjoyed being a part of the north Norfolk community for such a long time and will miss the day-to-day contact with customers and would like to thank everyone for their love, friendship and support over the years."

Wet Dog is up for sale with Paul Hubbard Commercial for £195,000.
