A funeral director has applied for a premises at a popular seaside destination to become a location for its business.
ST Sutton Funeral Directors has submitted an application to change the use of the ground floor at 21 Station Road in Wells-next-the-Sea from a chartered surveyor, which it previously was, to a funeral director.
The applicant describes itself as a locally-owned, family-run business that has been operating in Wells for more than 50 years.
Mrs N Rosser, who applied on behalf of ST Sutton Funeral Directors, said the changes would be minimal and the proposal would not include the installation of a mortuary.
She said: "The ground floor of this building has an existing commercial use of an office and all we want to do is continue the use as an office but rather than an office for professional services we want to use the ground floor of the building as the offices of a funeral business.
"The former use and this new use appear to be in the same class but we need confirmation hence this planning application."
A decision is expected by December 16.
