General store opens inside The Duck Stanhoe gastropub

From bread to beers, a Norfolk village now has a general store and it is located inside a gastropub.

It has opened in the Garden Room at The Duck Stanhoe, with the space previously used for events.

The business was taken on by couple Rachael and Jeremy Parke last summer, who were previously at No. Twenty9 Bar and Restaurant in nearby Burnham Market.

They have since refurbished The Duck, including its two upstairs bedrooms, and the seasonal menu is packed with local produce.

There was demand in the village for somewhere to get essentials, such as toilet roll and toothpaste, as well as locally made treats and gifts.

The items for sale include fresh sourdough, cheeses, chutneys, cakes, meat, soft drinks, beers and wines.

The Garden Room has a small seating area where customers can meet up and enjoy treats from the store and they also have a coffee machine.

Mrs Parke said: "People in the village wanted a hub where they could have coffee and socialise.

"Anything leftover in the store at the end of the day we use in our pub dishes to reduce waste."

The store opening hours are 9am to 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday.
