The gardens at a Norfolk estate have been named among the best in Britain.

Houghton Hall sits nearly 10 miles west of Fakenham and is a must-see destination for many visiting north Norfolk.

The old kitchen garden was commissioned by Lord Cholmondeley to be redesigned in 1991 as a memorial to his grandmother, Lady Sybil Cholmondeley.

Now, the five acres of walled space include a Mediterranean-style garden, formal rose parterre and double-sided herbaceous border, all carefully maintained and kept in pristine condition.

The work has scooped Houghton a place on The Times' list of the UK's best 14 gardens.

Writer Eddi Fiegel said: "Houghton Hall’s award-winning, five-acre walled garden is a feast for garden and art lovers alike."

The article also mentions the "equally impressive" sculpture and deer park.

Made up of a 100-strong group of figures, the iron casts have been placed around the grounds.

After attracting visitors since April, the exhibition is in its final month before moving on October 31.
