A care home has won a gardening competition.

Heath Lodge care home, in Holt, was crowned the winner of Danforth in Bloom, a competition between nine Danforth care homes.

The competition was judged by Danforth's construction partner, LNT, and the trophy was presented by David Domoney from ITV's This Morning.

Mr Domoney said: "I was delighted to go to and meet everyone at Heath Lodge after winning the Danforth in Bloom competition and was pleased to see the results of such a great initiative.

"What they have been able to create is not just a garden, but a community and friendship, which nourishes the residents and enables them to enjoy the pursuit of gardening.”

The competition, which started this year, asked care homes in the Danforth Group to compete for the title of best garden.

Heath Lodge care home residents had been working hard since April, planting fruit and vegetables such as rhubarb, strawberries, and fresh herbs, which will be used as fresh produce for meals.

They also planted lavender and other decorative plants for table decorating.

The final submission for the competition was a two-minute video showcasing their garden.
