The North Walsham & Dilham Canal Trust Festival is taking place this weekend.

Taking place on September 7 and 8, the annual festival is organised in partnership with Dilham Hall Retreats and is hosted at the Canoe Field, Oak Road, Dilham.

Visitors can anticipate captivating live music, exciting boating experiences, and a range of exhibitors showcasing fascinating rural crafts, environmental and wildlife learning, and games suitable for all ages.

The festival promises an array of delectable food options, ice cream, a licenced bar, and a coffee stand.

Three youth groups, the Stalham Sea Scouts, 1st North Walsham Scouts, and the Joint Services Cadet Corps, are set to actively contribute to the festival.

The Corps will inaugurate the event with a parade, the Sea Scouts will host a tombola and ‘Test your aim’ challenges, while the North Walsham Scouts will oversee games and parking.

Eyecatching water vessels, such as the restored "Queen of Light", the weed harvester of the Trust, and a replica wherry named "The Newun", will operate in the canal.

Attendees can also enjoy a serene ride under willow trees on these ships.

Dilham Hall Retreats will facilitate the hire of canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks besides allowing self-launching of paddle craft for a nominal fee.

They will also be providing low-cost taster sessions throughout the weekend.

The festival marks a significant milestone in the restoration of the North Walsham & Dilham Canal, made possible by the removal of sunken Alder trunks, tree pruning, and aquatic weed harvest.

Visitors can now navigate light craft up to Honing Lock or down to Wayford Junction.
