The dramatic moment firefighters rescued a woman from a flat blaze by the North Norfolk coast has been described by her neighbour.

The fire in Bacton saw a woman rushed to hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

Today’s blaze started at around 2.30am off Priory Road.

A neighbour described the dramatic moment the woman was rescued: "I saw the fire crew carry her out, one holding each limb.

“She had two dogs and a cat, I don’t know what happened to them”

“It’s a house turned into two flats”

“She often slept on her couch at night”

Another neighbour said: “I saw three fire engines and then a helicopter landed in the back field.”

An air ambulance as well as three land ambulances attended the scene.

The woman was rushed in a "serious condition" to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further treatment.

A spokesperson for the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Appliances from Mundesley, North Walsham and Stalham attended a domestic building fire on Priory Road.

"Crews wore breathing apparatus and used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots. The stop message was received at 04:11.”

This afternoon a police forensics team was on the scene as well as what appeared to be two fire service vans.

A statement from Norfolk police confirmed: “We were called to assist fire at 03.02am Priory Road this morning 5 August to reports of a fire at a property in Priory Road, Bacton. A woman was taken to hospital by ambulance.”

The police spokeswoman added that the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service was leading the investigation.
