A village pub has closed its doors but locals are hopeful it will reopen under new management.
The Crown at Trunch shut its doors due to increasing costs, difficulty recruiting staff and “a sleeping economy that means visits to pubs in general are declining”.
The manager of the pub, located on Front Street in Trunch, near North Walsham, said: “We have given it our best shot but ultimately have decided we are perhaps not the best fit for this beautiful village pub.
“We’ve had ups and downs over the last 30 months, but unfortunately the last six have become unsustainable.
“We are still awaiting an update from Batemans on news of a new tenant, so the village can have its pub back open, serving the local community.”
The pub is owned by Batemans Brewery and operated by Snug Hospitality, a local Norfolk business.
A spokeswoman for Batemans said: "Obviously we hate having pubs shut; we are very fortunate that it is very rare. It is anticipated The Crown will reopen in about three to four weeks."
Locals have commented online that they are sad to see the pub closed, but look forward to seeing The Crown reopen under new management.
