It is one of Norfolk's best beaches and a favourite for swimmers.
But locals in Sheringham are kicking up a stink about the state of the seafront shower.
They say the facilities on the Promenade, just to the west of the town centre, are a disgrace, filthy and smelling of urine.
One local said: "It is the start of the summer season and the beach is one of the county's top tourism draws. But the showers look like they belong in a slum.
"North Norfolk relies on income from tourism, so you would think the facilities should be world class, not filthy and stinking of urine.
"The same goes for the paint work along the front which is covered in stains and looking tired and depressed."
A spokesman for North Norfolk District Council, which is responsible for the facilities, said the site would be visited and redecorated.
"The council always strives to maintain its assets to as high a standard as possible for public use," he added.
"Competing priorities and the need to balance resources often makes it very difficult to ensure that all assets remain as we would like them to.
"We will be cleaning the unit in the coming days and then redecorating in accordance with our maintenance plans.”
