An artist's proposal to bulldoze a rural church to make way for a 10-bed super villa has been causing commotion in a Norfolk village... but they can breathe a sigh of relief.
With a professional-looking consultation event inside All Saints Church in Wighton and a planning notice placed outside, people passing have been alarmed by what at first appears to be a legitimate application with North Norfolk District Council.
It claims to seek approval for a super villa named 'Serendipity', complete with a swimming pool, gym, yoga studio and observation tower offering a coastal view.
Locals have expressed their disbelief, calling it "an abomination".
However, it is in fact an installation by Casey Wasey, a Norwich-based artist, who devised the outlandish proposal for the North Norfolk Exhibition Project, running until August 4.
The idea for the exhibit was inspired by the 12-year saga of the Arcady - a controversial home built by London theatre impresario Adam Spiegel which caused outrage in the village of Cley-next-the-Sea, who branded it a "fortress".
It aims to poke fun at the discourse around planning disputes and the developers that push regulations to their limits.
Casey, whose real name is being kept as a mystery, said: "I grew up outside Holt and have been following these planning applications happening in the area.
"I find the reaction to them really interesting.
"I thought it would be fun to do my own - it has been really intriguing hearing the public's response.
"Lots of people at first thought it was genuinely happening. One man called it an abomination, others joked they wanted to visit once it was built."
People can visit the consultation event until August 4 at All Saints Church, which is being displayed along with works by 50 other artists.
