Plans to transform a former Coastguard station site and boathouse into holiday lets have been approved.
North Norfolk District Council has rubber-stamped the plans to restore and convert the redundant buildings in Wells into two holiday lets.
The four properties, which date back to 1884 on 16 Bases Lane, consist of a larger detached two-storey house that accommodated the senior Coastguard, two semi-detached properties which accommodated Coastguard officers and the Coastguard station.
The operational offices will form one of the lets, while the boathouse will form the other, with two bedrooms, one shower room, an open-plan kitchenette and a dining and living area.
The plans were first reported back in January, with the officer report published in March adding: “It is considered that the proposed development complies with the relevant Development Plan policies. Accordingly, approval is recommended subject to conditions.”
Until 2022, the site served as an active government agency Coastguard rescue station and had a 138-year operational history.
The houses were sold by the Coastguard estate in the 1980s, with the sole remaining Coastguard property relocating to the new police station in 2022.
