A north Norfolk café has been hit with a one star food hygiene rating.
Peggotty's Café, in Hamilton Road, Cromer, has received a one out of five hygiene rating after its most recent inspection by the Food Standards Agency.
The Food Standards Agency, which is responsible for food safety and hygiene in the UK, said the café requires improvement in its hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building.
However, Alex Sala, the cafe's owner, said the "unfortunate" timing of the inspection in November last year was the reason for the low food hygiene rating.
He said the inspection took place on a day when "all the other cafés around were closed", which "overloaded our staff and kitchen equipment well beyond our capabilities".
Mr Sala added: "A review is expected in the second half of February and all of the issues related have been sorted almost immediately."
Mr Sala said the food hygiene rating "does not really reflect our normal standards", and hopes it will improve after the reinspection.
