A disused community centre in a coastal village could be converted into a holiday let.

Plans to turn the wooden building on Ostend Road, Walcott, into a cottage or chalet have been submitted to North Norfolk District Council.

The community centre, built in 2004, has gone unused for the last three years.

A planning statement said: “Unfortunately, the resident’s association decided in 2021 that they no longer required the use of the building for their ‘Tuesday Club’ and other community-based functions.

“The building has not been in use since then apart from the very occasional random request for some form of function to be held there.

“The building has now been vacant for three years. This is a situation that cannot continue.”

Walcott is a popular area with tourists and sits between Happisburgh and Bacton.

The applicant described the work as “very small scale”, which would help boost tourism in the area.

The rest of the site will continue to be used for community parking and a large open grassed area for communal use.

The bid will be decided in due course.
