A north Norfolk football club with a 130-year history is giving girls the opportunity to play football with hopes it will lead to the formation of its first ever women's team.
Holt United Football Club, which was established in 1893, was one of the founding members of Norfolk’s first football league - the North Norfolk and Norwich League - in 1895.
But after a long history in the men’s game, it is now welcoming girls to play for the club for the very first time.
The club is currently running taster sessions, which are being led by father and daughter coaching duo Gary and Emily Pye.

“We want to help introduce women’s football to the club and take it forward,” Mr Pye said.
“The football club is really willing to throw itself into this and get women and girls involved.
“We had a taster session last week and we had about ten girls attend, all of different ages. We’ve got another one coming up, so we’re pushing hard to get them involved.
“As soon as we have enough players we’d like to join the Norfolk Women and Girls’ Football League.
“Even if they want to come along to training and just enjoy it – it’s just about getting girls into football who would like to play but have never had the opportunity.”

It comes on the back of the success of England’s Lionesses in recent years - who won the Euros in 2022 and reached the final of this year’s Women's World Cup.
The sessions are open to anyone over the age of eight. The next session is taking place at the club on Sunday, November 12, from 10am to 11am.
