A new 30-hour weather warning has been issued for Norfolk amid heavy rain and gale-force winds from Storm Babet.

The Met Office yellow weather warning is in place from midnight on Friday until 6am on Saturday and warns that fast-flowing or deep floodwater is possible.

A separate weather warning for high winds of 60mph along the Norfolk coast has been issued from midday on Friday until midday on Saturday.

The second named storm of the season landed on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain across the county.

Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said: "While Friday and into the early hours of Saturday will see the likely peak in terms of heavy rain, the set-up for Saturday is for another day of unsettled weather for Norfolk, with further heavy rain likely at times through the day.

"Low pressure remains in charge of the UK weather on Sunday, though there is a slightly greater chance of some drier spells in Norfolk in between showery outbreaks of rain.

"After perhaps a drier start to Monday, the outlook for Norfolk for the start of next week is for low pressure to remain in charge with periods of wet and windy weather likely."

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has urged the public to practice "extreme caution", particularly along exposed cliffs, seafronts and piers.

Storm Babet, a complex area of low pressure which developed to the west of the Iberian peninsula, was named by the Met Office on Monday morning.
