Access to a north Norfolk beach is set to be affected by repair works, which could take up to eight weeks to complete.

The access ramp at Sea Palling beach is set to undergo repair works from Monday, September 11, the Environment Agency has announced.

Contractors will need to excavate areas of the beach to expose the ramp, with nearby rocks also being removed as part of the extensive repairs.

The works are expected to take between six and eight weeks to complete.

The Environment Agency said: "We will be carrying out the repairs to Sea Palling access ramp in stages.

"Our contractors will be setting up their compound starting on September 11 and starting work on the beach the following week.

"We are aiming to keep the access open for the public throughout the project but may need to restrict access at times to protect the health and safety of the public (for example the movement of machinery).

"We will provide diversions for members of the public to follow alternative pedestrian access routes and ask that the public look out for signs and to follow any diversions put in place.

"We have worked with the Sea Palling Independent Lifeboat to ensure that they are able to provide lifeboat cover in the event that our project temporarily restricts access.

"We have also been working with local fishermen and business owners to make them aware of the repairs.

"This essential work is subject to tidal conditions and weather but at this stage it’s anticipated the work will take six to eight weeks. The repairs will ensure that the Sea Palling Access Ramp is as safe as possible for all of its users."
