The charity behind an Art Deco art gallery on Cromer's seafront has been awarded almost £35,000 towards an ongoing renovation project.

Cromer Artspace took over the lease of the ground floor of the 1930s chalet building at the western end of the Esplanade last year, converting it into a seafront art gallery.

Now, the not-for-profit organisation has been given £34,800 from the government’s Community Ownership Fund to continue developing the once-derelict building.

The £150m cash pot is being handed out with the aim of helping UK community groups  take ownership of buildings that have fallen into disrepair or are under threat of closure, to give them a new lease of life.

The North Norfolk District Council-owned space had previously been vacant for around a decade, but the art group has now transformed it into a hub and gallery space for local artists to showcase their work.

Earlier this year, Cromer was named 'Norfolk's coolest seaside spot'.
