Two lifeguards have been commended for saving the lives of a father and daughter after they were pulled out to sea by a rip current.
Councillors on North Norfolk District Council voted unanimously to “record a vote of thanks” to RNLI lifeguards Greta Balfour and Thomas Owen for the rescue, which happened on June 11.

At this month’s full NNDC council meeting, councillor Liz Withington called the rescuers “quick-thinking and courageous”.
The father was reported to have had his daughter on his back which was forcing him under the water.
She said: “They were able to respond to two people that were in a rip tide and were being taken under.
“They entered with a board and were able to keep the people afloat until further help arrived by other lifeguards.”
RNLI lifeguards responded to two cardiac arrests on the same weekend - one at Sea Palling and the other in Sheringham.
Ms Withington said thanks should also be extended to “all the teams along the coast who provide such an essential service under the contract with NNDC to provide lifeguards at our beaches along the coastline.”
