Sheringham residents have had their say on the town’s new Post Office.

In March this year, the owners of Barney’s newsagents – Jigen and Nisha Patel - opened a Post Office counter inside their Station Road store.

It came after the closure of the town’s former Post Office - located inside the Starlings store in Sheringham High Street – in April last year, following the retirement of postmaster David Starling.

A temporary branch opened inside the community centre in Holway Road, which received criticism from residents because it was located outside the town centre.

Owner Mr Patel said: “The response from people in Sheringham has been great - they appreciate the fact we now have a Post Office in the town centre again.

“People would complain about the temporary Post Office in Holway Road, but this is more convenient for everybody.

“It can benefit other businesses as well, bringing people to the town centre, who may pop into local businesses on their way to the Post Office.”

And the new branch has been given the thumbs up by locals.

Lesley Braithwaite, 69, said Sheringham people would “never know when the temporary Post Office was going to be open”, but the new service has been “much better”.

She said: “It’s been brilliant – I love it. You know it’s going to be open when you want to use it.”

Trevor Trudgill said the Post Office is “an asset to the town”, and another Sheringham resident, who wished not to be named, said “It’s wonderful – you need a Post Office in the town centre where everyone can access it. They’re so nice in there.”

Pam Waters, 79, added: “There was nothing in town before. It’s so easy for local people, especially elderly people, to get to.

“The service is excellent.”
