Vandals have cut down two oak trees in north Norfolk.

One of the trees was on the St Michael’s Estate in Aylsham, at the junction of Cawston Road and St Michaels Avenue.

The other was at the Buttlands Car Park,  off Mill Road, near the town centre. A major limb was cut off this tree, but its trunk is still there.

Aylsham Town Council said it happened overnight on Wednesday - June 7-8 - and the vandalism was being treated as “criminal damage” and had been reported to the police.

The council said the trees could not be removed until after the police had visited to inspect the damage.

Anyone with information about the damage can report it to the town council by calling 01263 733354.

Norfolk Constabulary said the incidents were being treated as linked.

A spokesman from the police said: "Any witnesses or anyone with information about the damage should contact PC Lucas Ward on 101 or email lucas.ward@norfolk.police.uk."
