They were once a common sight on rural railways, a way to save money by using one locomotive instead of two.
And now the North Norfolk Railway is inviting passengers to step back in time and 'ride the mixed' - a train made up of both passenger coaches and goods wagon - this half-term from May 27 to June 4.
The Mixed train will be hauled by one of the line’s heritage diesel engines, and two steam locomotives will also be in action each day.
