Norfolk has some of the best beaches in the world, so why go anywhere else? 

Earlier this year, Gorleston came twelfth in the Travellers' Choice Awards for 2023 of the top 25 beaches in Europe.

Here are seven of the best beachfront hotels in Norfolk, according to Tripadvisor.

1. Furzedown Hotel

Where: 19/20 North Drive, Great Yarmouth, NR30 4EN

This hotel, owned by the Garrod family for more than 50 years, has a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor and with 34 attractions less than a mile away, visitors will not be short of things to do. 

The hotel had a big refurbishment just after lockdown, with the new look aimed at making the most of sunrises over the sea.

2. Pier Hotel

Where: Harbour's Mouth, Gorleston-on-Sea, NR31 6PL

Also with a 4.5-star rating is the Pier Hotel in Gorleston.

The three-star grand hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and home-cooked food.

It featured in the film Yesterday which was directed by Danny Boyle, who stayed at the hotel while filming took place.

Boyle described the beach as “one of the great secrets of England”.

The hotel has 21 rooms with views overlooking the beach and the mouth of the River Yare - perfect for a summer staycation.

3. Hotel Ocean

Where: 54 Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2EJ

Sat on the beachfront in Great Yarmouth and featuring a terrace, the hotel is just 100 metres from Great Yarmouth Pier Beach. 

The hotel is also home to Café Ocean which features pizzas, handmade-filled pasta and signature mains on its menu. 

Last year it opened its new private dining restaurant: Jan.

4. The Cliftonville Hotel

Where: The Cliftonville Hotel, 29 Runton Road, Cromer, NR27 9AS

The Cliftonville Hotel in Cromer has undergone a huge overhaul - estimated to cost £750,000 by the time it is complete.

The refurbishment has seen the ballroom spruced up and a new terrace added with views of the North Sea.

The City Club Pub Company took over the dog-friendly Edwardian hotel in September 2021 and offers a menu of pub classics with lots of local produce including Cromer crab.

5. The Red Lion

The Red Lion in Cromer was voted the 'best rural pub' of the year in 2022 as part of a regional competition by Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA) Norwich and District branch.

The dog-friendly seafront pub has an extensive menu of local real ales and the rooms look down on Cromer beach and the famous pier.

6. Le Strange Arms Hotel & Lodges

Where: Golf Course Road, Hunstanton, PE36 6JJ

This Hunstanton hotel sits just a stone’s throw away from the sea with lawns leading down to a sandy beach.

Nicknamed Sunny Hunny, Hunstanton is one of Norfolk's highest-rated beaches by locals

Enjoy the option of self-catered accommodation in stand-alone apartments on the grounds.

7. Sandcliff Guest House

Where: 37 Runton Road, Cromer, NR27 9AS 

A short walk to the town centre, beach and pier, the "affordable guest house" is ideal for those having a beach holiday.

The guest house has a small team which have worked together in Norfolk for around 20 years and pride themselves on great service.
