Two musicians who finally started making sweet music together 40 years after their first dancefloor meeting have released their debut album.

Annie and Vernon Brown, from Cromer, said they were delighted with the reception to Still the Same, which was launched at a sold-out show in Sheringham.

Mrs Brown, 60, said: “It was recorded quite quickly in the end, although we had the studio and engineer for a week, my voice had been slow to recover from a bad cough, so we ended up virtually scrapping the first three days of recording.

“Tom Evans, the producer, was really understanding, and we just sang each song through three times and picked the best take so there was very little splicing in the end - we hope that will give it a fresh and immediate feel rather than an over-produced feel.”

Mrs and Mr Bown, 62, started singing together in 2018 at Sheringham’s Rock the Lobster open mic.

The couple first met at a dance when they were both at boarding school in Bedford in 1977. They arranged to see each other again in a park the following Sunday but the plan fell through when Mrs Brown’s mum told her they had plans to visit her nan on the same day.

They reconnected via Facebook in 2015 and got married at Baconsthorpe church, and have since gone on to perform their folk music at Deepdale Festival in Burnham Deepdale, Folk on the Pier in Cromer, Cambridge Folk Club.

Mrs Brown said: “So far we have had a fantastic reaction to the songs - particularly at the launch.

“It's interesting to hear what everyone's favourite tracks are - so far it seems to be Orphans, The River and Letting You Go in the lead.  My favourite is Letters Tied in Ribbon."
