A doctor who is set to retire after more than 32 years at a north Norfolk medical practice says it has been a “pleasure and privilege” to care for patients from the local community.
Dr Stuart Davidson started at North Walsham’s Birchwood Medical Practice, in Park Lane, in 1990, and he has now announced he will be retiring at the end of this month.
Dr Davidson's final day will be April 28, after more than four decades at the practice.
“The highlight to working here is working with the team,” Dr Davidson, 64, who lives in Edingthorpe, said.
“The whole Birchwood staff is one team. Another highlight has been working for such a great bunch of patients in the community - trying to do our very best for them and trying to reach the highest standards.
“It has always been the ethos at this practice to work hard and try to do the very best we can for our patients.”

He said the secret to a long career as a medical practitioner is to be receptive to change and to move with the times.
“You do need a certain amount of resilience because one thing you can always be sure about is that nothing stays the same for that long,” he said.
“You have to be able to cope with change. The scope of primary care has changed a great deal in that time, so you have to be adaptable and go with the change.
“You have to keep striving for clinical excellence, teambuilding, and to keep the patients as the priority.”
His parting message for his patients is that he is “leaving them and the practice in capable hands”.
“We have a great team here going forward,” he added.
“They can be reassured that we will continue to look after them.”
