The sacrifice of the 53 RAF airmen who died in the Dambusters raid in the Second World War will be remembered at a special service in Cromer.

The Cliftonville Hotel in Runton Road will host an event to mark the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise - an attack on German dams using innovative 'bouncing' bombs - on Saturday, May 20, from 10am-4pm.

Nigel Pearce, one of the organisers, said: "There will be a Second World War model aircraft display and items on show.

"Associated events will include the unveiling of the RAF standard.

"We hope to have some video displays of Second World War aircraft to add atmosphere and effect.
"We will be presenting a special commemorative plaque and a list of the crew who lost their lives in the raid."

Mr Pearce said they also hoped to run a raffle, with proceeds going to the Sheringham and District Rafa (Royal Air Forces Association) branch.

The RAF Ensign was also due to be raised at the Cromer Town Council and North Norfolk District Council offices on May 17 in tribute to the Dambusters.
