An important gateway junction into the Cromer town centre is to be revamped, with plans including an enforcement camera to deter bus lane rule breakers.
Norfolk County Council has given the go-ahead for a new ‘bus gate’ on Overstrand Road, to take the place of a bus lane that is already there.
The project, aimed at improving traffic flow around the Norwich Road/Overstrand Road junction, will also include painting a new ‘no waiting’ yellow box at the junction, and installing a camera to catch motorists using the bus lane.
The bus gate will also be 41 metres shorter than the current bus lane to allow access to driveways on the northern side of Overstrand Road.

Tim Adams, county councillor, said: “The scheme has finally been approved following the end of the consultation in late February.
“It is an immense relief to see it finally get this far after such significant delays, and I am grateful to staff who have worked on this.
“They are now procuring the relevant infrastructure and electrical connections for the work, with the ANPR camera already delivered and awaiting installation.

“There will also be signage, new line markings installed, including a yellow box on the junction to deter obstruction of the road.”
Mr Adams said there were few such bus lanes in the country like this, where retained firefighters, Coastguards and lifeboat service personnel can use it when driving private vehicles to their stations in response to an emergency.
He said: “[This is] something we don't think is replicated in such a way in many places elsewhere, given the number of retained/volunteer personnel who are part of the emergency services in this non-metropolitan area.”
