The children of a hero skipper who saved his crew after a Second World War bomb exploded underneath it will benefit from a new fundraiser.
Jade Simm is the sister of Lewis Mulhearn, from Weymouth, who died aged 39 in January, two years after the blast that wrecked the fishing boat Galwad-Y-Mor when it was crab fishing off Cromer.
She said they were aiming to raise at least £5,000 to benefit Mr Mulhearn’s children Frankie, nine, Lewie, seven, Reggie, four, and stepchildren Kia, 23, and Will,18.
She said: “For two years Lewis suffered both mentally and physically as a result of his many injuries.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult period for our family, but we are concerned about what the future will hold for our nephews now their daddy is no longer with us.”
In 2021, Mr Mulhearn was awarded the Emile Robin Award by the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society to recognise his heroic and selfless actions in rescuing fellow survivors after the blast.
