The director of a pantomime featuring the drag queen character Titania Trust has spoken of his pride at the show's success.
Joseph Ballard, from the theatre group, New Stages, said he was thrilled at the reception to the production of Sleeping Beauty, which saw sell-out audiences at its performances at the North Walsham People’s Theatre.
Mr Ballard, who is originally from North Walsham and now lives in Norwich, said: “I am very proud of what we have achieved, employing professional actors to present a top-quality pantomime for people in the town to enjoy – sharing the magic of live theatre and the sense of togetherness at Christmastime.
"We had received fantastic feedback and support, which has provided us with a strong foundation to go forward with more plans throughout the year.”
Mr Ballard wrote and directed the new adaption of the classic tale, including references from 2022's biggest news stories as well as slapstick routines, humour and a meaningful message for all ages.
In the panto, Rose, played by Georgie Matthews, is unaware of being a princess and cannot think of anything worse than actually being one.
A villainous prime minister played by Simon Michael-Morgan plots against the royal family to take over as president.
Beverley Bishop and Jamie O’Sullivan joined the cast as the Queen and Duke.
Andrew Burrell played Percy, alongside the kingdom’s fairy - or auntie - played by Titania Trust.
And performers from local dance school, Dance For Fun, also got in on the act with dazzling numbers and costumes.
Mr Ballard added: "From outlandish costumes, quick humour and showstopping moments - including a star-lit ballet and dare we mention the flying? - Titania wowed audiences, showing that over two decades of pantomime and stage experience shone through under her fairy wings.
"Titania proved to be a pantomime dame, with homage to tradition, for the modern age, ensuring her message of kindness and love carried through to win the day."
New Stages presents shows and classes all year round including North Norfolk Youth Theatre for young people aged eight to 17, as well as acting classes for adults, and the North Walsham People’s Choir.
