King Charles appeared to be in jovial mood as he spoke to well-wishers in Norfolk this weekend, despite a tumultuous few days for the royal family.
The monarch arrived at Castle Rising church, near his Sandringham home, on Sunday morning (January 8) to attend a service.
It was the first time he had been seen in public since revelations started to emerge from Prince Harry's new book, Spare, earlier in the week.
The controversial book has been the subject of headlines for days, with Harry disclosing personal details of his love life and his drug-taking, as well as the deep rifts with his family.
The revelations include claims that the Prince of Wales physically attacked his brother in a row, as William called Harry's wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
There has also been uproar from some military veterans to Harry's claim that he killed 25 Taliban fighters while serving in Afghanistan.
And there could be more royal revelations to come, with Harry carrying out interviews to promote the book.
One, with ITV's Tom Bradby, will be broadcast tonight and will include the prince's claims that his brother knocked him to the floor during a violent confrontation in 2019.
The duke, however, told Bradby: "I want reconciliation. But, first, there needs to be some accountability.
Harry alleges the heated confrontation with William took place at his then-home in London, Nottingham Cottage, during a row about Meghan, and that it left him with "scrapes and bruises" to his back.
Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace have declined to comment, but the inflammatory claims and intimately personal book are being seen as damaging Harry’s fragile relationship with his brother – a future king – beyond repair.
The book, ghostwritten by JR Moehringer, comes just weeks after Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary.
