Part of a road through a town has been closed for seven days while repair works take place.

Burgh Road in Aylsham has closed from its junction with Foster Way - for 50 metres heading east.

The work started on Wednesday, December 7 and it is expected to be completed by the end of December 13.

It is being done by Anglian Water workers who are repairing chamber covers.

However, a Norfolk County Council spokesperson said "if necessary, the closure could run for a maximum period of 21 days".

Drivers affected by the closure can use an alternative route via Burgh Road, the A140 Aylsham bypass, Norwich Road and Burgh Road.

Those who ignore the closure could face a maximum fine of £1,000.
