The impact of HSBC closures in Cromer and Fakenham could be softened by opening 'banking hubs', it has been claimed.
Steffan Aquarone, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for North Norfolk, said such hubs would see different banks operating in a shared building.
Mr Aquarone said: "Bank hubs do more than just provide access to cash.
"People being able to speak to their relationship managers, and businesses accessing a 'hub' of financial and economic support and information, mean they impact positively on the local economy.”
Tim Adams, North Norfolk District Council leader, added his reaction to the closures.
He said: “I am distraught by the news that HSBC has decided to close their branches in Cromer and in Fakenham.
"It’s a complete abandonment of support for the rural economy - and it’s been announced without any business case to back it up.
"Anyone who uses these branches knows they’re busy with both consumers, and commercial customers."
