THIS year's Rotary antiques fair at Aylsham raised a record £5,000-plus.

It has become a firm annual fixture in the local antiques world and this was the 12th annual evnt.

More than 600 people went through the door between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. By the time all expenses are paid the net profit will be a fraction below £5,000. The money will be donated by Aylsham Rotary Club to both local and Rotary Charities.

Aylsham Scouts and Guides helped out with the event at Aylsham High School and the scouts led by John Gardiner helped set the hall up and then during Saturday's preview evening the girl guides led by Debby Dangerfield helped to serve canapés made by Rotarians' wives.

Both organisations will receive a £250 donation towards their funds.

The catering for the Fair on Sunday was done by Colby and Banningham Women's Institute who sold their

cakes and sandwiches throughout the day, and they too will receive a donation towards their funds.

The arrangement of the Fair is put together by members of the club over many months, it takes hours and hours of members' time to catalogue the antique dealers and other traders who are invited to attend.

Of particular interest to President of Aylsham Rotary Club, Mike Yorke, this year is Sheringham Woodfields School for children with learning difficulties and the school will benefit from a proportion of the funds raised.

Keys Auctioneers of Aylsham, supported the event by offering a valuing service on Sunday giving an 'Antiques Roadshow' style service which was described as relentless through the whole day with people queuing on the stage to have their possessions examined by an expert.
