The family of a matriarch who served diners in a north Norfolk town for more than four decades has paid tribute to her.

Enid Gotts (nee Farrow), of Sheringham, was aged 81 when she passed away on November 20 - exactly a year after her husband.

Described as “a little heartbeat of humanity”, Mrs Gotts was a lifelong resident of the north Norfolk seaside town.

Born on September 5, 1941, to parents Austin and Dorothy "Bessie" Farrow, she was the second-born of four siblings; Sheila, Billy, and Judy (deceased).

Growing up on a farm close to National Trust-owned Sheringham Park, she learned a lot about life.

One such experience included keeping a pet duck named George, who tapped on her bedroom door each day for breakfast. Unfortunately, during a conversation about his whereabouts on Christmas Day, her father informed them they were eating duck for dinner.

Mrs Gotts attended the local schools and later would meet her future husband, Ivor, during a whist drive in the town. They married on March 31, 1962, at St Peter’s Church.

Shortly after, they moved to Luton, Bedfordshire, to work at the Vauxhall motoring factory; Mrs Gotts in the canteen and Mr Gotts on the production line.

The couple returned to Sheringham two years later, where they remained. They had two children; Steven (1966) and Andy (1971).

Mrs Gotts spent her entire career working in hospitality, including 30 years at Dave’s Fish Bar and Restaurant on Co-Operative Street. Mr Gotts worked as town's milkman for 40 years. She retired during her late 60s.

Her son, Andy, said: "She loved meeting people and talking to them.

"She had old-school principles and a mentality where nothing was too much trouble.

"She always wanted to help and would put herself second, preferring to help family, friends, and neighbours first."

Mrs Gotts died following ill health and leaves behind her sons, grandchildren Brandon, Zoe, Connor, and Isabelle, and her siblings.

A funeral will be held at Cromer Crematorium at noon on Thursday, December 1. An interment of the couple's ashes will take place on their wedding anniversary next year. Donations to the East Anglian Air Ambulance via c/o Blyth & Sons Funeral Directors, Sheringham.
