7 of the best pub lunch pitstops on Norfolk's Coasthopper

There are two services on the Coasthopper, operated by Sanders Coaches, which are the CH1 from Wells to Cromer and CH2 from Cromer to North Walsham.

1. The Stiffkey Red Lion, Stiffkey (CH1)

This charming pub with rooms featured in The Good Food Guide's 2023 list of 'Britain's 100 best local restaurants'.

It serves a seasonal menu of starters, mains, desserts, snacks and Sunday roasts and the dishes change regularly to keep things fresh.

2. The White Horse, Blakeney (CH1) 

Just a stone's throw from The Quay, visit this Adnams pub with rooms and enjoy the brewery's range of beers alongside its wine and spirits. 

Meals available for both lunch and dinner include a pork and chorizo burger and Adnams beer-battered haddock with hand-cut chips and minted mushy peas.

3. The Dun Cow, Salthouse (CH1) 

Boasting uninterrupted views over the salt marches, this pub is great to visit all year round with its log-burning fires for winter and spacious beer garden for summer. 

It was described as a "local gem" in the Good Food Guide 2023 and the menu includes Brancaster oysters and fresh local mussels marinière with sourdough or fries.

4. The Ship Inn, Weybourne (CH1)

Located across the road from the Coasthopper bus stop, The Ship Inn is a traditional pub and bed and breakfast in the heart of quaint Weybourne.

The menu is packed with crowd-pleasing dishes and there is also a garden menu for al fresco dining, including hot sandwiches, nachos and loaded fries.

5. The Red Lion, Cromer (CH1/CH2)

The Red Lion pub and hotel boasts views of Cromer's spectacular beach and historic pier.

It has won several accolades and in 2022 it was awarded an AA Rosette for culinary excellence, with its Sunday roasts particularly popular.

6. The Ship Inn, Mundesley (CH2) 

The Ship Inn overlooks the golden sands of Mundesley Beach and you can enjoy the coastal views from the large beer garden. 

Its Beachside Restaurant serves pub classics and you can also visit The Catch "gourmet takeaway kitchen" for fish and chips.

7. The Crown at Trunch, Trunch (CH2) 

This cosy village pub, operated by Snug Hospitality, serves real ales and pie and mash, with a busy events calendar too. 

The pie options range from a traditional steak, ale and onion to macaroni cheese with pulled pork.
